A portion of this fan base is structured as an online community, which uses various platforms to communicate and express their devotion to the show. These platforms include forum sites such as Reddit, Instagram, Facebook, and the fandom run WIkia page.
The Effect of Salinity on the Concentration of Various Trace Metals in The Little River Estuary
Shelby C Bishop
Oceanography and Chemistry
Undergraduate Student
College of Natural Resources & Sciences
Trace metals are crucial to many biological processes in marine environments. In estuaries linear relationships between salinity and concentration indicate that mixing is the main determinant of concentration, while exponential relationships indicate active removal. In this study it was expected that scandium would have an exponential relationship with salinity due to its similar ionic size to iron, however, Sc displayed a linear relationship while elements that were expected to be linear were exponential. To the author’s knowledge, this data represents the first river and estuary measurements of Sc, Ce, Zr, and La, and the reasons for these surprising relationships are not fully known.

Undergraduate Student
College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences
This project will see the creation of an exhibition revolving around the artist Morris Graves. The project involves research of the archives at the Morris Graves Museum of art and analysis of the condition of the works in storage. An analysis of the content and readiness for display of the collection is being done in order to plan out the format for the exhibition. The personal art collection of Morris Graves is at the Morris Graves Museum of Art yet no comprehensive exhibition displaying the works in that collection has been put on. This project aims to bring attention to the importance of the artist Morris Graves during the 1950's contemporary art scene.

The research will focus on the experiences of Liberian Americans while fleeing the civil wars, that took place 1989-2003. The displacement was shaped by the human security policies made by the Liberian Government and the United States government. The relevance of this study is the placement of value on the experiences of those who experienced displacement. More often than not, the focus of migration in the global south is the economic factors and how those factors affect the Western world. This research is a way to project the stories of those who are often not heard, the Liberian people.
An Evaluation of the Blue Lake Biomass Plant Emissions: Air Quality and Health Impact on the Blue Lake Rancheria

The Blue Lake Rancheria community has had visibly polluted air and matter emitted from the local biomass plant over the recent past. The Rancheria is concerned about the negative health impact the biomass plant could be having on the environment and community. This literary review hopes to establish an understanding of the impact of the Blue Lake biomass energy plant’s impact on air quality, determine standards of emissions which it operates and examine the gaps between current healthy standards of emission and that of the Blue Lake biomass plant. The findings will inform the Blue Lake Rancheria and will raise public awareness of the air quality and health impact of the biomass energy plant.
Determination of Metal Accumulation and Loading in the Oxidation Ponds at the Arcata Wastewater Treatment Facility
Pedro Alvaro
Chemistry
Undergraduate Student
College of Natural Resources & Sciences
The determination of temporal variations of metals, in the primary effluent and oxidation ponds, were collected biweekly (2007-2008) and weekly (2012-2013) at the Arcata Wastewater Treatment Facility. The data demonstrates the removal of contaminant metals in the oxidation ponds through sludge deposition as well as the role weather events play in elevated metal concentrations. The sludge in the oxidation pond systems where also measured to allow the projection of the accumulation of metals in the sludge within the system 30 years from now.

This project investigates the Eureka Boiler Works Collection housed at Humboldt State University’s Humboldt Room by presenting the collection within a historical context, including how it arrived at the Humboldt Room. The social and economic context of the Humboldt Boiler Works will be addressed as well as the company’s impact on Humboldt County and the surrounding Pacific Northwest. The collection includes documents ranging from the late 1800s to the 1940s, incorporating employee records, product designs, correspondence and general company records. The project provides an overview of the contents of the collection.

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of a structured exercise program on the total amount of exercise completed by the participant. The researchers believe that providing an environment that included the major components of Self-Determination Theory (SDT) would support the participants increase in exercise output. This study used a changing criterion design over the course of 6 weeks. Results suggest that the structured exercise program along with the major components of SDT had a positive impact on the exercise levels of the participant.
