Every Body Humboldt

Becoming a 501(c)(3) under the Ink Peoples Dream Makers project, Every Body Humboldt aims to create accessible safer spaces for participants to learn skills and tools for regulating stress, healing trauma, making healthy social connections and creating new patterns. We’re currently working to eliminate economic, physical ability, and social barriers to learning these tools. Every Body Humboldt is working with folks at Humboldt County Correctional Facilities, with the general public at Om Shala Yoga, and Synapsis Nova, with intentions to work with drug courts here as well. I will be sharing some tools and literature for folks, while showing what is currently going on, our mission, and goals.
Supporting Military Women and Families Through Policy

This presentation highlights my time as a Fall 2021 Panetta Congressional Intern for Cal Poly Humboldt. Also covered, is a policy research paper I completed as an internship requirement discussing ways to support military women and families through policy. In this presentation, I also cover the impacts of gender discrimination in the Military.
To Shave or Not to Shave : Gender Conformity, Resistance and Female Body Hair.

My research seeks to examine the body hair experiences of female HSU students and pressures they face conforming to local normative gender expectations. Drawing on a random sample of 300 female HSU students, I administered an online survey. My survey questions focused on the factors influencing respondents to grow out armpit and leg hair, and how individual characteristics influence women`s body hair practices at HSU. I will present my methods, data, and concluding analysis.

In hopes of increasing STEM students in colleges this project is geared towards high schoolers with the idea that since they are quite adept to todays technology they may be interested in drone technology, either flying, programing, or learning how drones help in the scientific community.
Raccoon use of Storm Drains on Cal Poly Humboldt’s Campus

I will be presenting a poster concerning raccoon use of the storm drains on Cal Poly Humboldt's campus. This study was conducted through the use of motion sensing camera traps, and did not involve any direct capturing or handling of animals.
Effectiveness of Trailhead Signs

I went to three different trailheads to interview willing participants based on the information found on trailhead signs. Using this information, I was able to compile data to find the amount of visitors who looked at these signs, and which topics visitors answered most correctly.

A project in collaboration with Nord University in Norway to highlight students' perspectives on International Social Work day 2024. The theme for this year's international social work day is "Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change" with an emphasis to adopt innovative, community-led approaches that are grounded in indigenous wisdom and harmonious coexistence with nature. The video project interviewed social work students at both universities on their perspectives of what it means to be a social worker contributing to a shared future for transformative change.

Climate Change and Its Effect on Spring Migrating Waterfowl

Climate change is one of worlds greatest threat to ecosystems and biodiversity. Rising temperatures could have increased impact on migratory waterfowl during spring migration periods. I went out a did point counts at three different locations (Arcata Marsh, Hookton Slough, Salmon Creek), measured temperature and other environmental factors and waterfowl abundance. There was no significant impact by temperature on waterfowl abundance. Further Research could be done over a longer period of time to measure the impacts climate change and rising temperatures could have on migration timing during the spring.
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Mitigating Resources among Humboldt State University Students.

The goals of this project is to assess adverse childhood experiences(ACEs)among students who attend Humboldt State University, & to explore campus resources students use to sustain their academic success, despite these challenges. I conducted a survey on HSU students (n=133), scoring their ACEs using the Kaiser Permanente study of childhood experiences, & asking a series of questions about their childhood, adult & HSU experiences. I found various resources & attachments that students reported as supporting their success in college. This research can help bring attention adverse childhood experiences on campus, & can provide a useful insight on resources needed to serve this population.
