Physiological and Psychological Differences Between 20% Grade Incline Walking and Level-Grade Jogging at Isocaloric Intensity
Motoki
Sato
School of Applied Health
Graduate Student
College of Professional Studies
High-incline walking is a relatively new trend with little comparative information. This study aimed to compare physiological (indirect calorimetry, relative oxygen consumption, heart rate) and psychological (enjoyment, affective valence, rating of perceived exertion) differences between 20% incline-walking and level-grade jogging at isocaloric intensity in young adults. A secondary purpose of this study was to establish an isocaloric protocol to compare 20% incline walking with level-grade jogging using relative VO2 as the primary measure while maintaining constant duration and relative work intensity.

My Service Learning Experience with CalTrout
Connor Stewart
Environmental Studies
Undergraduate Student
College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences
My service learning project consisted of working with Mary Burke, Project Manager at CalTrout Arcata. Together we planned/coordinated special events for this year's Humboldt Steelhead Days celebration which included fun/educational activities, workshops, conferences, and engaging art experiences. We worked together with several local residents and organizations who all helped put these events together for a common goal of getting involved with the local community and helping educate them about CalTrout and other's work in watershed and salmon habitat restoration.
Intersections of Gender, Access, and Confidence in Women's Leadership
Lauren Wardle
Environmental Studies
Undergraduate Student
College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences
This poster reflects my experiences in leadership positions within HSU campus organizing, and how those experiences intersect with questions of gender, power, access, and confidence. Although we might hope that leadership is open to all folks, this isn’t always true in the workplace. It was through my own journey of self-reflection, research and, trial and error to foster my own confidence and leadership skills, that I found myself asking how gender and power reinsert themselves in such contexts. My poster provides ideas for how we can foster these skills for other women in similar and differing situations.
