Building Support for Study Abroad at HSU

This project will investigate the current support mechanisms for students intending to study abroad and how HSU could both better prepare students for their experience and help re-acclimatize them on their return. This work would involve interviews with those working with students as faculty and staff as well as student interviews about what they would find valuable in terms of support. The aim for this work would be a set of practical proposals for the marketing and outreach to encourage more students to study abroad as well as more aware pre-departure preparation and return programming.

Burnout Syndrome an Occupational Hazard for Nurses

Burnout syndrome is an occupational hazard that can affect healthcare professionals, especially bedside nurses that work in a hospital setting. It is comprised of three main components; emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced professional efficacy. It occurs when healthcare workers experience chronic stress. It can lead to mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and PTSD. It negatively affects patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. It also increases nurse turnover which results in understaffing, therefore affecting patient safety. Improving working conditions for nurses, education and quality leadership will help decrease the prevalence of burnout syndrome.

Caffeine Supplementation and its Effects on Health and Performance in High School/College Aged Athletes

This poster aims to summarize how caffeine supplementation affects health and performance in high school/college aged athletes. Furthermore this poster delves into how caffeine affects general health and anaerobic/aerobic performance. Following that how caffeine absorption is affected by genetics.

Cage Farm Fishing Restoration Project in South East Asia: Heavy Metals in the Surrounding Ecosystem

The proposal for the study is to restore ecosystems near fish farms. Surrounded ecosystems have shown to be harmed by heavy pollutant (lead, mercury, and arsenic). In the long run the research team plans to stop more input of heavy metals into the water with the help of the Philippines community. The outcome for the project is to educate, care for the health of the community, and have cleaner and drinkable water.

Cahuilla Tribe and the Agua Clientele Case

My paper will touch on the Coachella Valley Aquifer and the Cahuilla tribe, which is centered around the Agua Caliente case. Specifically focusing on how the Cahuilla tribe gaining rights over the groundwater, could change future cases on groundwater rights.

Cal Poly Humboldt 3D Digital Herbarium

The Cal Poly Humboldt 3D Digital Herbarium improves upon current digital herbaria by incorporating 3D models of flora in addition to images of specimens from physical herbariums. These annotated models in addition to a social component implemented with the integration of iNaturalist make for the most immersive, fun and memorable experience of any digital herbarium out there.

Our project idea involves hosting a campus-wide scavenger hunt that will span three days, featuring four quests/scavenger hunts daily, totaling twelve activities. This event is exclusively for Cal Poly Humboldt students. Our aim is to offer an exciting recreational opportunity for participants to engage in interactive and social activities outside of their dormitories, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among students. By organizing these activities on campus, we hope to encourage students to step out of their comfort zones while still feeling connected to their academic environment.

Our project idea involves hosting a campus-wide scavenger hunt that will span three days; Mon April 22-25, 2024, featuring four quests/scavenger hunts daily, participants will be given a riddle that will lead to one of 12 buildings on campus. In these buildings, we have hidden a piece of paper with a QR code. Students must bring this QR code back to our table on the quad and win a gift card. This activity is being held in part by WRRAP. Our aim is to offer an exciting recreational opportunity for participants to engage in interactive and social activities outside of their dormitories, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among students.

Cal Poly Humboldt GIS Data Archive

The Geospatial Data Archive is a collection of useful GIS datasets, with an emphasis on Humboldt and Arcata, meant for students and community members as a whole to preserve and simplify the access of important geospatial data. We are also aiming to archive and display student and faculty projects. Data submission will be open to anyone with a registered account, once proper metadata has been filled out. Creating and maintaining useful metadata is another focus of the archive, as many datasets available online lack the necessary information to contact creators or to be fully understood by the average viewer

California Assembly Bill 32: GHG Cap and Trade Program

In 2006 the California State Assembly passed Assembly Bill 32, or the California Global Warming Solutions Act. AB-32 appointed the Air Resources Board as lead agency to implement a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions back to 1990 levels by 2020. One of the ways that the ARB is facilitating this reduction is through the development and implementation of California's first GHG emissions cap and trade program. The program sets a maximum amount of allowable emissions for the industry (the "cap") then enables individual businesses to "trade" emissions allowances . Trading creates incentives to reduce GHGs below allowable levels through investments in clean technologies.
