College of Professional Studies
This project was part of a senior seminar course credit in pursuit of a Recreation Administration degree, and stemmed from a deep devotion and love of outdoor recreation. With a core focus around financial accessiblity and engagement with local outdoor recreation, I wanted to create a visually appealing and readily available map displaying these locations in relativity to the Cal Poly Humboldt campus. All locations allow students, visitors, and community members to engage with nature-based activities without the burden of high costs or extensive travel. This project not only reflects my passion for equitable outdoor access but also represents a personal and professional growth experience.

We reviewed nine peer-reviewed empirical articles on the effects of climate change on young people’s development. The problem is that climate change is so rapid that not many people know its severity and how it can affect us, our children, and our daily lives. We aim to shed light on the psychological side of climate change and present solutions we have found through the various articles listed.
The Effects of Microalbuminuria Testing for Providing Recommendations for Potential Treatments in Diabetic Patients with Kidney Damage
Danielle

School of Applied Health
Undergraduate Student
College of Professional Studies
Microalbuminuria testing is crucial for early detection of kidney damage in diabetic patients, as it identifies levels of albumin in the urine, signaling potential nephropathy. Early identification enables timely interventions such as lifestyle modifications, blood sugar control, and the use of medications like ACE inhibitors or ARBs to slow disease progression and protect kidney function. Regular monitoring of microalbuminuria helps guide treatment adjustments, improving patient outcomes and preventing further kidney deterioration.

The Library Scholar Internship team is digitizing historically significant objects from the library’s Special Collections. This process involves more than scanning objects, but publishing to a broader research community using Omeka.net to create digital exhibits. In this poster we discuss our process creating metadata, scanning procedures, researching the collections and publicizing our work. Our goal is to encourage students and faculty to use the library’s resources such as Collaboration Stations, SkillShops, librarians, computer labs, #mondopad and peers to improve and publish their research. The library is a dynamic space for students to work on innovative and collaborative projects.

Our poster discusses SkillShop development from Fall 2013 - Fall 2016 and our focus on student learning and motivation. We have adapted John Keller’s ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) Model of Motivation Theory for designing SkillShops workshops. Learn about the lesson planning questions that SkillShop facilitators use to design lesson plans for 50-minute drop-in workshops, to ensure that workshop content connects the learner to their coursework, personal and professional growth, and supports independent learning. This poster will share the data on SkillShop themes and attendance compared to campus data and the partnerships that have expanded HSU SkillShops.

Humboldt State University Library houses a collection of posters and documents preserving anti-war ephemera and primary sources from the HSU Strike for Peace protest, which took place May 11-15, 1970. This student-organized protest was one of the largest demonstration in Humboldt County’s history to date; it drew support from almost 3,000 students, faculty, and Humboldt community members. The protest stemmed from President Richard Nixon's support of expanding the war into Cambodia, after he had promised the general public to begin the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam.

The Lumberjack is the award-winning, student-run newspaper of Humboldt State University and has published continuously since 1929. In spring 2019, the HSU Library hired students to digitize editions of the newspaper and make the papers available online. These students scanned microfilm reels, applied Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to the scans, and uploaded the papers to the library’s Digital Commons website. This project will provide greater access to the history of HSU to researchers across the globe, creating opportunities for new and exploratory research.
