The beginnings of the HC Black Music and Arts Association, a National Association of Negro Musician Humboldt County Chapter came from starvation for Black traditions, foods, values, and connections. Through open dialogue, I had the opportunity to listen to different narratives on people’s experience since moving to Humboldt County. Based on the assessment, I learned many people of color were experiencing feelings of cultural shock and isolation. Definition: Cultural starvation happens when there is no link to Black culture, traditions, or food. The lack of Black awareness, holidays, gathering, and spiritual settings can be mentally taxing on one’s soul.

We will be conducting a musical event held locally at Blondie's in Arcata that incorporates a canned food drive and an assortment of raffle prizes. One of our goals is to support local businesses and to show the community how much they give back to HSU by asking these local businesses for donations for our raffle. We wish to accomplish entertainment that is in a safe and including environment. We also hope to create opportunities for OhSnap to provide more food for students. To not only be able to give back to the HSU students in need, but to also bring attention to the community that a program like OhSnap exists. We will donate all of our canned goods back to the OhSnap program.

Sport-related concussions are defined as the somatic and cognitive instabilities caused by direct, biomechanical forces colliding with an individual’s head or body. Health professionals utilize a series of tests to identify these instabilities at the time of injury and throughout recovery; however, each test measures the deficits individually. Alternatively, by combining two tests into a dual-task assessment, subtle impairments are better detected after a concussion. The purpose of this study is to determine if the Tandem Gait with a secondary cognitive task is a valid and reliable tool to distinguish prolonged gait deficits after a concussion in collegiate athletes.

Unlike other activities, running paths do not have easily measured difficulties (ie., ski slopes, climbing level). Turn characteristics (tortuousness) are one strong contributor to path difficulty, therefore the purpose of this study is to determine if turn angle will alter the energetic cost of running.

Elementary school classrooms are foundational in our middle childhood experiences, as well as our knowledge of the world. But not all classrooms are fit to serve ALL students, especially students of color. As (Liberal Studies) Elementary Education majors, we took a closer look at the elementary classroom, specifically at problem areas, to develop ways to address these issues in a culturally sustaining way.

The purpose of this meta-analysis was to examine the effect of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosures on firm financial performance. Standard meta-analytical procedures determining inclusion criteria, literature searches in electronic databases, and coding procedures were used to identify and synthesize articles retained for this analysis. PRISMA guidelines were utilized as search strategies, as well as interpret effect sizes and quantify research findings. Moderator and outcome variables were assessed using coding procedures. A total of 136 studies were surveyed and categorized. Results from meta-analyses indicated an overall moderate effect for US companies.

Taking a deeper look at teacher preparation programs (including our own) and finding the amount of exposure teacher candidates are given in regards to multicultural education, culturally sustaining pedagogies, and critical frameworks, and finding better ways to serve the youth in our K-12 schools. By checking our own biases, and exploring deeper into the world of education, including its racists and heteronormative structures, we take a closer look, and find some solutions to better support the community, and most importantly, the whole child.

Study of a powerlifting power to increase 1RM on the bench press.

It has been reported that adopting an external focus may enhance movement efficiency in individuals. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of adopting distal external focus of attention on muscle activity and repetitions to failure during barbell bicep curls. This study utilized three trials for three different focus conditions (control, internal, external) to measure muscle activity through electromyography and repetitions to failure. For the internal focus condition, participants were instructed to focus on their arm performing the movement. For the external focus condition, participants focused on a light attached to the barbell and pointed at the wall.

Anaerobic capacity is defined as the maximal amount of energy used during high intensity exercise by means of anaerobic energy systems. For decades, the primary way to test anaerobic capacity is the Wingate Anaerobic Power Test (WAT), however, it is not sports-specific to a majority of athletes. Subjects will be tested on the WAT and three completed three Anaerobic Speed Test (AST) treadmill protocols; the Cunningham and Faulkner AST (20%, 8mph), Murao modified AST (15% grade, 9.1mph) and a new proposed mAST (20% grade, 10.6mph). Time to fatigue and work output will be compared to each other for each AST and compared to Peak, Relative, and Average Power in the WAT.
