Between set rest intervals (RI) are one of the most important variables in resistance training; however, no known research has investigated the effects of RIs greater than 5-min during strength training. The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of three different RIs on training volume (TV) completed during a high-intensity bench press exercise. 15 resistance trained males completed 3 experimental sessions, during which 4 sets of the bench press were performed. Resistance trained males, with the goal of greater volume during strength training, would benefit from longer RIs. Specifically, using an 8-min RI between 4 consecutive sets of a bench press allows for a greater TV.
Effects of Strengthening Interventions for Oblique Tears of the Abdominal Muscles for Professional Baseball Players
Zheneida Alvarenga, School of Applied Health Undergraduate Student
College of Professional StudiesThis project explores targeted strengthening interventions for oblique muscle tears in professional baseball players. It aims to develop and evaluate evidence-based rehabilitation protocols focused on enhancing core stability, improving rotational power, and reducing re-injury rates. Through a combination of clinical assessment, biomechanical analysis, and sport-specific training, the study seeks to optimize recovery outcomes and support peak athletic performance

This study highlights the interaction between uncertainty and rhetoric on the support for policies such as abortion. Clinton’s affirming rhetoric created higher support for abortion because highly uncertain individuals define the self by expressing polarized group-based attitudes (Gaffney et al., 2014). Political leaders may be able to gain support for causes that are salient to their party identity by utilizing affirming rhetoric rather than negating rhetoric.
Effects of Visual and Verbal Prompting on the Badminton Overhand Swing
- Nastya YudinovaKinesiology and Recreation AdministrationGraduate Student
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of verbal and visual prompting during balloon badminton on the number of correct overhand badminton swings (OBS), also known as clears, of an 8-year-old female subject with spastic cerebral palsy. Using a 4-week ABAB design, the intervention was found to be effective at improving the rate of correctly performed OBSs by as much as 30% on a weekly average between baseline and intervention phases and by as much as 37.5% overall.
Efficacy of Blood Flow Restriction Training on Muscle Growth and Pain Management Post-ACL Reconstructive Surgery
Abby Borg, School of Applied Health Undergraduate Student
College of Professional StudiesFor my project I conducted a literature review on the efficacy of blood flow restriction training (BFRT) on muscle growth and pain management among the population of post-operative ACL patients. BFRT is a proposed therapy for combatting quadriceps atrophy following ACLR. This therapy consists of placing cuffs that act as a tourniquet on the proximal part of the lower limbs and inflating them to a pressure that partially restricts blood flow to the lower limbs. Through this review, I found that BFRT is a promising therapy for ACLR patients.
Elementary School Classrooms and the Need for Critical Frameworks
- Timothy RupiperLiberal Studies - Elementary EducationUndergraduate Student
Elementary school classrooms are foundational in our middle childhood experiences, as well as our knowledge of the world. But not all classrooms are fit to serve ALL students, especially students of color. As (Liberal Studies) Elementary Education majors, we took a closer look at the elementary classroom, specifically at problem areas, to develop ways to address these issues in a culturally sustaining way.
End of Life, A Talking Circle
- Denise GeorgeSocial WorkGraduate Student
End of Life, A Talking Circle Grief support groups are offered to the bereaved, after the death of a loved one, yet are rarely made available to those who have been given a terminal diagnosis. This vulnerable and under-serve population may greatly benefit from having an outlet for complex new emotions, the experience of connectedness, understanding and support from others who are facing their own mortality. The purpose of this project is to develop a pilot support group model serving individuals facing end of life to assess the demand for and value of such an intervention. Research on promising practices with support groups for terminally-ill patients was combined with a community-
Equity Gaps Among Diverse CSU Student Groups
- Lizbeth NavarroSocial WorkGraduate Student
Crutchfield and Maguire (2018, 2019) completed basic needs assessments of the CSU system and data from those will be analyzed to explore equity gaps among diverse student groups reporting food and housing insecurity with focus on hours worked, and hours of familial obligations. A policy recommendation is for university volunteer and internship hours to count as an eligibility exemption for CalFresh .
